Chengdu's electronics retail scene is centered on a handful of large multi-story malls in the city center, of which the Digital Square (数码广场, Shùmǎ Guǎngchǎng) on Renmin South Road and the nearby AEC Electronics Mall (AEC数码城) are the best known. Together they form a several-hundred-meter stretch of multi-story buildings packed floor to floor with counters selling phones, laptops, tablets, cameras, headphones, smartwatches, drones and every conceivable cable, case and accessory. This is where Chengdu's tech workers, students and small repair shops come to buy, repair and sell gear.
The advantage of shopping here over a chain store is price and variety. A mid-range Android phone can be 5–15 percent cheaper than the official flagship store, and accessories — screen protectors, cases, cables — are sold by the box for a few yuan. The disadvantage is the same as every electronics bazaar on earth: a tangle of small vendors, some honest, some not, and a constant risk of being upsold, shown a refurbished unit as new, or sold an unofficial accessory at an official price.
What to buy (and what to avoid)
- Phablets and Android phones: Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Huawei have official counters; buy from the branded counter, not a random table.
- Accessories: cables, chargers, screen protectors and cases are cheap and abundant; inspect build quality.
- Laptops: Lenovo, Huawei, Honor have authorized stores; compare with JD.com prices before buying.
- Cameras: authorized Canon, Sony and Nikon dealers are on the upper floors; bargain 5–10 percent off.
- Do avoid: "gray market" iPhones at suspiciously low prices, unbranded power banks (fire risk), and any "unlocked" device that cannot show you the IMEI.
The Apple Store itself is in Taikoo Li, not in these malls; buy genuine Apple products there. If you need a repair, the malls have authorized service centers on the upper floors; ask for an official receipt.

Foreign visitor tips
English is limited; bring a translation app and the model number you want. Prices are not usually marked; ask "duōshǎo qián" (how much). If buying a phone for use abroad, confirm it has the 4G bands you need and is not a China-only model. Always inspect the sealed box: a genuine sealed box has a tamper sticker. Warranties on Chinese phones are usually valid only within China; ask before you buy. Do not leave your old phone unattended on a counter while browsing. If you buy a power bank, keep it in carry-on; airlines will not allow power banks in checked luggage.
If you are only browsing and not buying, take the escalator to the top floor: the view over the stacked stalls of phones and cables is itself a memorable sight, and you can compare prices without being hassled. Remember that Chinese warranty is usually valid domestically only, so ask before you pay. Power banks must travel in your hand luggage, never in checked bags. The nearest Metro is Sichuan Gymnasium Station on Line 1, exit C, with direct underground access to the mall concourse.
